Twenty works

A story in twenty pictures

In 2026 I chose twenty works to stand for fifty years of looking. They are not the most famous or the largest. They are the ones that, set side by side, tell the story the way I would tell it.

In her words

The watercolors I make every day. Blue Waves, Yellow Light, Pink Daydream, Green Landscape: they are small, quick and transparent, and they carry the same rings and orbs that fill the oils. Peace Dazzler, Blue Echo and Upon Reflection are those oils, worked slowly over months, cells of pure color that the eye brings together.

The Sonnegrams began when Polaroid gave me a grant and asked for something experimental. I took the new color technology back to my roots, the large camera, upside down under a black cloth, asked NASA for slides of outer space, cut sports figures out of the New York Times and set them, upside down, into the cosmos. A discus thrower, a batter on Saturn, divers on a solar eclipse, sailboats in a galaxy. I made them for fourteen years and I am about to make them again.
